Jesuit brothers have been a valuable part of the Society of Jesus since the founding of the order, but what does this look like today? Brother James Boynton, SJ, president of University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, shares his insights on the role of Jesuit brothers in our Church today.

Speaker Bio:
Brother James J. Boynton, SJ, is the 30th president of University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, one of the first Jesuit brothers to serve as president of a Jesuit secondary school. He devoted many years of his ministry to missionary work in northern India, Mexico, and Haiti, and with migrant workers in northern Michigan. He served in many roles at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland before joining the U of D Jesuit staff in 2006. He holds a Master of Theological Studies from Weston Jesuit School of Theology and a bachelor’s degree in history from Loyola University New Orleans. He is an accomplished Irish fiddle player, and fluent in Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole.

Advancing Care for our Common Home in Jesuit Universities
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Dr. Nancy C. Tuchman, PhD, Founding Dean of the School of Environmental Sustainability, Loyola University Chicago, gave a JFAN talk discussing how Pope Francis and the Society of Jesus are calling us to action to protect our shared planet and how Jesuit universities across the country are leading the way. This talk explored Loyola University Chicago’s sustainability successes as a case study and shared what each of us can do to advance the cause.
